Collegeboxes is the top student storage and shipping provider. While serving over 350 schools, we’ve learned a lot about different universities. This month, we’re giving you five reasons to love Arizona State University such as location, innovation, and diversity.
1. ASU Location
Arizona State University’s main campus is in Tempe, Arizona. The city of Tempe provides a lot of opportunities to truly live out a well-rounded college experience.
Tempe has created a perfect balance of college town vibe with big-city features. While the university has tried to push away the “party college” label, Sun Devils still have plenty of fun on Mill Ave. But it’s not because of the reason you might be thinking. There are plenty of restaurants, stores, and other activities located in downtown Tempe.
One of those outdoor activities includes taking a morning hike on “A” mountain. Officially known as Hayden Butte, the trail provides a quick trip to a bird’s eye view of Tempe and Phoenix. If you’re more of a water person, Tempe Town Lake offers boat rides, paddleboarding, and fishing only steps away from campus. Multiple companies have set their headquarters in between the mountain and the lake.
The other great part about Tempe is that it’s a quick car or light rail ride to Phoenix or the airport. Phoenix has become the fifth-largest city in the United States with its activities and job opportunities. Being a quick trip from Tempe gives you a college-town living but city life access.
2. ASU Innovation
Any recent Arizona State University graduate will tell you one word is implanted in their brains: innovation. As of 2022, U.S. News & World Report rankings have ranked Arizona State as the nation’s most innovative university for seven straight years.
U.S. News & World Report created the category back in 2016, and the Sun Devils have kept the top spot ever since. Innovation is defined as “the introduction of new things, ideas or ways of doing something.” Essentially, Arizona State is the best at innovation when it comes to curriculum, faculty, students, campus life, technology, and facilities.
Arizona State has retained the title for many reasons. The university offers over 200 online degrees, including those in STEM-related fields. Those who prefer an online learning space can get a one-of-a-kind bachelor’s degree in biological sciences with a concertation in genetics, cell and development biology, and plenty of other degrees like it. Arizona State has also formed partnerships with companies like Starbucks and Uber to create a path for degrees while working.
3. Tempe Weather
Move-in day at Arizona State University will be hot. However, the weather couldn’t be much better most of the time you’re there. The Tempe climate offers great weather from September to April. Sure, it gets very hot during the summer, but unless you’re an in-state student, that’s not an issue for you.
The average temperature during the school year at Arizona State University is normally between 60-and 80 degrees. That allows you to enjoy the outdoors comfortably with the many hikes that the Tempe area has to offer or even play a round of golf with your friends. The state of Arizona has an average of 296 days of sunshine, meaning any day is the perfect day to go outside.
4. ASU Specialized Schools
There are countless majors at Arizona State. But truthfully, you can say that about almost any major university. What sets Arizona State apart then? The university provides more than a full concentration on a major but tries to provide an appropriate building and campus for you.
Arizona State offers students multiple campuses to take classes at. Each campus also offers different specialties as well. The Downtown Phoenix campus of Arizona State has the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation as well as the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Arizona State positioned both these schools well because the city of Phoenix offers students valuable experience within walking distance. Nursing students have multiple hospitals in the area to learn at and journalism students have news stations, city news, and professional sports teams all around for stories too. There’s also the new Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law that can be found at the Downtown Phoenix campus.
Even if that’s not your passion, the main campus in Tempe, Polytechnic (Mesa, Arizona) and West (Glendale, Arizona) campuses offer different schools as well. The W.P. Carey School of Business, Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, and plenty more. Arizona State offers free buses with Wi-Fi to travel from campus to campus to allow you to obtain the full experience as a Sun Devil.
5. ASU Student Population
Sun Devils come from all around the world. According to the school, Arizona State had over 75,000 students on its campuses in the fall of 2021 including nearly 55,000 at the Tempe campus and 11,000-plus students at the Downtown Phoenix location. It’s quite a diverse bunch.
College Factual ranks Arizona State University’s Tempe campus in the top five percent of overall diversity. Based on the racial-ethnic demographic breakdown, over half the population is made up of Hispanics, African Americans, Multi-Ethnic, and other minority students.
Most Arizona State students come from the state of Arizona to attend the university. However, over 35 percent of students come from different states and nearly 10 percent are international students. Arizona State has many students coming from California, Texas, Washington, Colorado, and Illinois.
