As a Dual Enrollment student at Pasco Hernando State College, I was welcomed with open arms. I got the opportunity to participate in all of the student activities and the planning of those activities!
Here are 5 reasons why I love Pasco Hernando State College:
1. Cost
I was fortunate enough to get my associate’s degree for free due to Pasco Hernando State College’s Dual Enrollment Program. This includes all of my books, tutoring, tuition, and events. If you are not a Dual Enrollment student, don’t fret! Most state colleges/community colleges in Florida are a whole lot cheaper than the average University. For example, Pasco Hernando State College costs only $3,155 per year. In comparison, The University of South Florida has an average tuition cost of $6,410. This price does not include activities, food room, or board!
2. Small Class Sizes
Pasco Hernando State College is known for its small class sizes. On average, Pasco Hernando State College has a class size of 30 students for their general education courses like English 101 and 102. In comparison, The University of South Florida or any other big University has high student numbers for their general education courses.
3. Beautiful Campuses
Pasco Hernando State College has a total of 6 campuses in 2 Florida counties. The campuses array a huge diversity of wildlife and beautiful architecture. These 6 campuses include the North Campus in Brooksville, The West Campus in New Port Richey, the SpringHill Campus in SpringHill, The East Campus in Dade City, The Porter Campus in Wesley Chapel, and the Instructional Performing Arts Center in Wesley Chapel. All of the 6 campuses have local wildlife and scenery. My local campus, The Porter Campus even has the unofficial second mascot, an alligator named Albert. Albert can be seen in the local pond in front of the campus.
4. Degree Options
Pasco Hernando State College has over 100 degree programs to choose from. These degrees range from the Associate in Arts to the Bachelor in Nursing or even a bachelors in Business Administration. In addition to the general Associate Degree, the students can even specialize their degree. With many different pathways to choose from, the potential for students to reach their goals is limitless. Students work with dedicated staff to tailor their degrees to their desired career choice.
5. Work-Study Programs
As a student at Pasco Hernando State College, I was fortunate enough to be offered a work-study job as a Student Ambassador. Student Ambassadors are the face of a college and at Pasco Hernando State College, they are also in charge of the events on campus. As a student ambassador, I got the opportunity to help plan events and create promotional packages for students. I even had an opportunity to be on a campus commercial for The CW network.
