As the #1 student storage and shipping provider in the U.S., Collegeboxes knows a thing or two about different universities. We’re putting that knowledge to good use by spotlighting one of the 350-plus schools we serve each month.
Starting in spring 2023, that list will include the University of British Columbia, as we continue to expand our reach and help more students. To help usher in our expansion to Canada, the University of British Columbia is the school of the month for January 2023.

Where is the University of British Columbia (UBC)?
UBC’s main campus is located on the Point Grey peninsula of western BC, about 10 kilometers outside of downtown Vancouver. The main campus is set near several beaches, as well as the snowcapped North Shore mountains, making it a scenic beauty. There’s also the UBC Botanical Garden and Nitobe Memorial Garden. Both of which are campus highlights for visitors and its 66,000 students alike.
UBC also features a satellite campus in the nearby city of Kelowna, known as the Okanagan Campus. This secondary campus was founded in 2005. The Okanagan Campus is home to more than 10,000 undergraduate students who study in 62 undergraduate programs and 19 graduate programs.
Other noteworthy UBC sites include UBC Robson Square, Centre for Digital Media, Asia Pacific Regional Office, and the UBC Faculty of Medicine Across BC.
What is the University of British Columbia Known For?
In addition to the seaside scenery, UBC is known for many of its sustainability initiatives and its commitment to research. In fact, UBC is home to one of the largest research libraries in Canada – the UBC Library, Canada’s second largest academic library boasting more than 7.8 million volumes. UBC is also home to TRIUMF, Canada’s national laboratory for particle and nuclear physics.
UBC is considered a high-ranking school. It ranked number #2 in Canada and 44th in the world in 2022, according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities. UBC consistently earned a ranking in the Corporate Knights school rankings, which ranks schools based on sustainability particularly when it comes to integrating those efforts into education.
Clearly, UBC is a great place for learning. It’s no surprise, then, that some of Canada’s best and brightest are UBC alumni, including Canadian Prime Ministers Justin Trudeau and Kim Campbell – the latter being Canada’s first female PM. By the numbers, 74 Rhodes Scholars, 8 Nobel laureates, and 65 Olympic medals hail from UBC. If you’re planning on attending UBC, you’re in good company to say the least.
