Where is Gannon University?
Gannon University is in Erie, Pennsylvania. While most people associate Pennsylvania with Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, Erie is the state’s fourth largest city. There is plenty to do in Erie as it is a port city of Lake Erie, one of the Great Lakes. Students can spend days exploring around the lake with attractions like Presque State Island Park and learn about its deep history including its role in the War of 1812. If students are looking to explore other nearby cities like Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Ohio, Buffalo, New York, and even Niagara Falls, they easily can because it takes two hours or less to drive to these cities. What is Gannon University Known for?
Gannon University is a four-year private Catholic university founded in 1925. Archbishop John Mark Gannon bought what is now known as Gannon’s “Old Main” back in 1941 and helped create the current campus’ central site. Located in the heart of Erie, the campus is central to many businesses and organizations that provide students with hands-on learning opportunities.
With a student body of nearly 5,000, there are over 75 degrees to choose from whether it’s at the undergraduate or doctorate level. As well as eight pre-professional programs and 20 cooperative professional school options. There are 159-plus clubs to choose from such as Relay for Life Club, Science Fiction Club, Ski Club, and the Environmental Club. In 2014, WERG, the university’s student-operated radio station, that broadcasts daily, won the 2014 Abraham & Borst Award for Best College Station in the Nation.
Students will be attending a school grounded in the Catholic Tradition, Gannon University warmly welcomes persons of all faiths and backgrounds, providing opportunities for respect, and enrichment through diversity within the Gannon community. Campus Ministry actively provides opportunities for faith development through daily/weekend liturgies, retreats, and weekly Bible studies.
Gannon University can be found ranked by The U.S. News & World Report and The Wall Street Journal for its student engagement and programs. The nursing, physician assistant, physical therapy, engineering, or computer science programs are all great choices for students.
