Collegeboxes knows a thing, or two about different universities. As the number one student storage and shipping provider, Collegeboxes wants to spotlight one of the 350-plus schools we serve each month.
LSU is our School of the Month for the month of May.
Where is LSU?
LSU is found in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The public university is set in the state’s capital and is right next to the Mississippi River. Students will be surrounded by a diverse set of historic attractions including the Old Capitol Building. Other campuses can be found in Alexandria, Eunice, and Shreveport
Baton Rouge is also in between two other major cities in the state, New Orleans, and Lafayette. Students are only an hour and a half drive to New Orleans, where they can explore the biggest city in the state and attend events like the Mardi Gras parade.
What is LSU known for?
Despite being in a large city, Baton Rouge is centered around LSU like a college town. Live, breath, and Geaux Tigers is a reality for Baton Rouge residents. A lot of that has to do with LSU’s excellent athletic department.
One of the biggest landmarks in Baton Rouge is Tiger Stadium. Home to LSU Tiger football, the stadium has a capacity of 102, 321, making it one of the top 10 biggest stadiums in the United States. LSU is generally regarded to have one of the best all-around athlete facilities in the nation. The school has seen a return on investment on the money spent. Heading into 2022, LSU had won 44 national championships, which ranks ninth all-time for schools at the NCAA Division I level.
Of course, LSU has its own academic prestige as well. LSU is Louisiana’s flagship institution, meaning there are plenty of research opportunities. LSU focuses on coastal sustainability, renewable energy, materials science & manufacturing, core computing, individual behavior & community context, communication & expression, biological, biotechnology & biomedical research. According to the university, “in the past year alone, LSU garnered $160 million in research funds, which returned $490 million in economic impact to the state.”
Not only is there a research opportunity as a student at LSU, but there’s also a variety of schools to choose from. LSU is one of a handful of universities that has its own law, dental, medical, and veterinary schools. The university also has top-ranked programs in landscape architecture, coastal environmental science, and petroleum engineering. Another top-tier program is the LSU School of Theatre, which was named the No. 2 Theatre Bachelor of Arts program among public universities in the United States in the prestigious OnStage Blog’s “Top 25 B.A. Theatre Programs for 2018-19.”
LSU is a large major university but has prioritized the student experience. According to College Factual, LSU has a faculty that is made up of 91 percent of full-time employees and a 22-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio.
